Charles M. Slem, Ph.D., has been teaching at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo since 1975. His doctoral work was in clinical-community psychology at Wayne State University. He is a tenured, full professor and former department chair of the Psychology and Human Development Department. Since 1985 he has been researching the impact of a variety of advanced technologies in the workplace (e.g., computer-integrated manufacturing, concurrent engineering technologies, and self-managing work teams). His work has been presented at conferences and published in professional journals.
As a coordinator and member of the team-taught, large lecture introductory psychology course for 20 years, he has been exploring and testing the use of technology to enhance the quality of education for the undergraduate. Dr. Slem was the recipient of Cal Poly's Distinguished Teaching Award in 1993.
Ned W. Schultz, Ph.D., is a tenured, full professor in the Psychology and Human Development Department at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. He holds a doctorate in developmental psychology from Ohio State University, where he was awarded the Outstanding Teaching Award. Since 1976 he has taught a variety of courses including developmental psychology, social and emotional development, and the psychology of death. He participates in the team-taught introductory psychology course and was the initial instructor to test the use of computer-based multimedia in the large lecture psychology course.
Dr. Schultz has presented and published research on issues in developmental psychology, personality, the psychology of death and educational technology. In addition to developing classroom multimedia materials, Dr. Schultz has created web-based technical reports for several projects.
