Attention
CAL POLY FACULTY AND STAFF
NEW Scholarship opportunity at Cal Poly.
The Women's and Gender Studies Department is proud to announce a new scholarship opportunity for Cal Poly students:
the Sarah Perryman Memorial Scholarship.
The Sarah Perryman Memorial Scholarship Endowment honors the mother of Kay Perryman-Snow.
Sarah Campbell Perryman, graduating (1934) from high school in Meridian Mississippi, did not have the opportunity to pursue a college education, but she became a talented tailor, a snappy dresser, an avid reader and a life-long learner. A single parent, Sarah instilled her high regard for education and self-reliance in Kay, her only child. Sarah espoused the benefits of higher education for young women and men alike. As a result, Kay remembers there never was a doubt that she would attend college; she earned a Bachelor’s degree in 1964, a Doctorate in 1972 and enjoyed a long and rewarding teaching career in Biological Sciences.
The Sarah Perryman Memorial Scholarship is an award to an undergraduate majoring in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Mathematics, Statistics, or Physics (College of Science and Mathematics). The recipient must have minimum 3.2 GPA and be nominated by Cal Poly faculty. Nominees must have demonstrated a valuable, current contribution to community service, especially women’s equity. Preference may be given to an applicant who is first-generation college-educated or has a disadvantaged background.
The Women’s and Gender Studies Department will administer this scholarship endowed by Kay Perryman-Snow, Professor Emerita, Biological Sciences Department, Cal Poly.
