PSYCHOLOGY INTERNSHIP APPLICATION PROCEDURES

Students will be oriented to internship in Psychology 323. Orientation will include a discussion of the types of internships available, intern responsibilities and the application procedures listed below:

Step 1. All students should obtain the list of available internship sites and the registration card from the department office, from the peer advising office, or in the Psychology 323 class.

Step 2. The students must arrange a meeting with a faculty coordinator who is in charge of the site(s) the student is interested in. At this meeting the student will be given additional information about the site(s) e.g., whether they would be a good fit with the student's career interests, whether they are one or two-quarter sites, and other pertinent information.

At this meeting the faculty member will also confirm the student has the prerequisite coursework and aptitude for the site and provide the necessary contact information and arrange for an interview.

Step 3. The student will then arrange for an interview with the supervisor at the internship site. If both the student and the on-site supervisor agree on the proposed internship assignment, both will sign the registration card, indicating their willingness to proceed with the proposed internship.

Step 4. The student returns the registration card to the faculty coordinator who will then sign the card and arrange for academic supervision. The student captures PSY 453 using a call number obtained from the faculty supervisor. This completes the internship registration process.

Students who fail to complete registration by the end of week nine will be accommodated only after completing all of the above steps and only if space is available in the proposed internship quarter. Students are advised to preregister early if they wish to be placed at their most preferred site.

Internship registration cards must be submitted no later than Friday, 4pm at the end of the ninth week of instruction of the quarter preceding the proposed internship quarter.

Students wishing to register for internship should attend the internship forum held the fourth week of the quarter.

Note: All students are required to meet regularly with their academic supervisor during the quarter. Failure to do so will result in no credit.
