:: What Can I do with a Degree in Modern Languages? ::

The Modern Languages and Literatures Major is unique in requiring of its students the study of two languages. The instruction in the Modern Languages and Literatures Department at Cal Poly is geared to both career education and the traditional role which foreign language education contributes to personal enrichment. Concerning the former, it prepares our students for highly skilled professional occupations with helpful expertise and understandings for positions of managerial responsibility or executive leadership abroad, or multilingual contacts with american consituents at home. In a highly competitive job market which encompasses the global village, this major is providing valuable language and culture skills to enhance the capabilities of our students and to broaden their economic opportunities. In some instances, such as Education and Agriculture, language and culture skills are a necessary experience for success in communication and human relations. Inter-cultural understanding and communication skills are indeed a premium.

In an an expanding global world, a degree in Modern Languages is an excellent preparation for careers in:
