Modern Languages & Literatures Professor Receives MLA Recognition
Brian Kennelly, professor in the Modern Languages and Literatures Department, was recognized for "distinguished contributions made as a fellow to the 'MLA International Bibliography (2008-11)' " at the MLA Annual Convention in Seattle on Jan. 7, 2012.

George Ramos, Professor and former Chair, Journalism, 1947-2011
Professor George Ramos, 1969 Cal Poly Journalism graduate, 1993 College of Liberal Arts/College of Arts and Humanities Distinguished Alumnus, three-time Pulitzer prize-winning journalist with the LA Times, and former chair of Cal Poly’s journalism department, passed away in late July.
Band Fraternity Receives Award
The national honorary band fraternity Kappa Kappa Psi has designated Cal Poly’s chapter as a 2009-11 Kappa Kappa Psi Leadership Award recipient.

CANVAS Magazine, the only magazine dedicated to print sales and marketing executives, is distributing the first electro-chromatic cover in the industry. Sponsored by Ricoh, and developed in the Graphic Communication Department, the cover was a remarkable collaboration of industry leaders.

Jennifer Jipson, associate professor in the Psychology & Child Development Department was mentioned on Jan. 29, 2011 in a Science News Magazine article, “Meet the Robots: Social robots take baby steps toward humanlike smarts,” which discussed interaction between children and robots with humanlike traits.
Graphic Communication Professor Teaches in Russia and the Ukraine
Cal Poly Graphic Communication professor Ken Macro recently completed a sabbatical in Russia and the Ukraine, teaching at Moscow State University of Printing Arts, St. Petersburg University of Technology and Design and at the Kiev Polytechnic Institute in Ukraine.
